Graceful Degradation vs. Progressive Enhancement

Does your not-the-latest-and-greatest browser frequently crash?

After experiencing literally dozens of full browser crashes (and tens of dozens of hangs/freezes/etc) a day in various older browser versions, I've traced most but certainly not all, to Facebook's very popular "React" Javascript framework. (a "framework" is a set of boilerpate code included in a program that simplifies the programming for those less experienced or in a hurry). If clicking/tapping calls a React function, there's a good chance it will not work reliably on any but the most recent browser versions.

Designing a responsive web page (one that automatically adapts to any screen size) does not require Javascript at all. HTML and CSS alone will always be faster and more reliable. But to do the nicer things most people expect now days using those tools alone requires some extra effort and a lot of patience.

As The World Wide Web Consortium (w3c -- they write the standards everyone else is supposed to follow) notes, websites should be designed to degrade gracefully and/or enhance things progressively. React doesn't do either best I can tell.
